Getting Started

Hudson have a wide range of temporary and contracting positions available. Many of these roles are filled quickly, often requiring an urgent start.

Companies are now very aware of the skills available to them at short notice and factor temporaries and contractors into their workforce planning, particularly for assisting with project work, covering peak demands, annual leave and system updates. As a contractor or temporary it is vitally important that you keep up with market requirements, changes and opportunities.

Working with your Consultant

Make your Consultant your primary contact - building a strong relationship will help us to track your availability and help you to secure roles.

Keep in contact with your consultant fortnightly/monthly after you are placed. If you are placed in short term roles keep in touch more often to let us know if and when you are available. For temps working on short term assignments it is recommended that you call us frequently to let us know when you will be available for work. If you have any problems with your assignment, or new workplace, you should advise your consultant and your supervisor immediately.

Hudson holds Contractor/Temporary nights at least twice each year. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with your Consultants and others who contract/temp so when invites are sent we would love to see you there.

Contracting Tips and Hints

Be professional, pro-active, flexible and maintain regular contact with your Consultants even if on assignment with another agency.

Be constantly aware of client/agent confidentiality. As a Contractor or Temporary the terms of your assignments often contain confidentiality clauses.

Read the terms which cover your Contracting or Temporary assignments. It is vitally important you understand these and if you have any questions your Consultant will be able to provide further guidance.

Retain a copy of job descriptions or make a thorough diary note of the tasks you performed on assignment - you may need to update your resume several times a year and may not completely remember your duties from assignment to assignment. Again career management is up to you - take responsibility for it.

Networking as a Contractor or Temporary can be hard however we recommend that you remain in touch with the relevant industry bodies, and other relevant organisations to ensure your networks remain in place.
